Echo Incursion 01 - Jurassic Gateway (August 10th, 2016)
It's a particularly hot day in the Gateway City zoo. What else could you expect? It's not like it's not to be expected, it is the middle of August, after all. But there's plenty of things to see here at the zoo, and the visitors' center is air conditioned well enough.
Just a normal summer day in a typical summer vacation spot. Right?
Well, that's when things change. Those in the visitor's center would find the building changing around them. There's suddenly a dinosaur skeleton in the middle of the place, with the banner "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" hanging from the ceiling.
That's not all. The animal enclosures are now different. What used to be a pen for the african elephants now has very large, very long necked reptiles in it. A gigantic, meat-eating dinosaur just tromped its way out of the lion habitat it's too much too large for, and unfortunately for the people around it, its vision is based on movement. The monkey house? Well, those are velociraptors breaking out of it. The aviary? Now filled with particular aggressive flying pterosaurs.
These are just some of the creatures making their sudden emergence, and it's not long until they spill out of the zoo and into the city proper. Dinosaurs are now walking the streets of Gateway City.
Yes, indeed. Just a normal summer day.

That's what you all have to "play with", folks! Mods will be responding with the NPC account, or you can handle your threads yourself. Just say which you prefer somewhere in the post itself. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask here!

That's when he noticed something out of the ordinary. Namely, loud roars and screeching in the distance. That was strange enough, only for it to be followed by more normal, everyday screams from people beside him on the street.
That's when Weller noticed the horde of tiny, green lizard creatures swarming people at people's feet, tearing at and climbing up their legs. His own eyes widened and he let out a shout once he realized the animals were biting at his legs.
Weller's mind raced a mile a minute. He couldn't exactly dash away from this in full view of multiple people. And... and what were these things, anyway? They looked like little dinosaurs.
As such, you'd see a middle-aged man, along with several others, screaming as they tried to shake the ravenous little creatures biting and clawing at them before they could do any real damage.
(I'm okay with NPCing these myself, along with anyone who wants to join me. Someone save Weller before he gets his legs chewed off because he's too stubborn to reveal his powers?)
no subject
And to the fleeing people, he yells, "Go! Get out of here--I'll take care of these!" Granted, having what looks to be another dinosaur-ish thing show up probably isn't the most reassuring thing ever, but beggars can't be choosers when it comes to rescue.

Edwin might notice a sudden burst of smoke in the corner of his vision. When it clears there's a bizarre creature that somewhat resembles a running shoe with arms, legs and a strange red diamond shaped design on it's chest. The creature will approach and reach out with it's both it's arms and laces to snatch up some of the people trying to shake off the little dinosaurs, including him. Anyone it grabs onto it will start to violently shake around in an attempt to "help" them get the lizards off them.
A white haired girl in a black outfit follows along behind it looking not very pleased. "No, Nakewameke! Forget the people, attack the lizards!"

So he'll stop and land nearby one of the Brachiosaurs. "Hello there!" That's it, keep it friendly. His GigaGaburevolver is safely tucked away in the folds of his robe, and Feather Edge is only a call away. "I don't want to hurt you, I just want to talk!"
Why, yes, that is a birdman attempting to engage in peaceful discourse with a dinosaur. Totally normal, nothing to see. Nothing at all to see.

This is true even now that she's Numbered, but she's not told her employers yet. Better not to draw attention to it when things are going so strange so suddenly.
As she's passing by the zoo, she hears a noise that no modern animal would make, and shields her eyes as she peers up past the gates at the extended neck of a brachiosaurus.
"Shit!" She exclaims, wide-eyed, oblivious to the glare a middle-aged woman with several children gives her. "Wow, is... is that real?"
no subject
But that's not the only thing coming through the gate. What follows is an agitated, dome-headed pachycephalosaur, intent on shadowing its much larger counterpart for protection. And Arlene, the woman, and the children are in its way of doing that.
With a snort, it lowers its skull and charges right at them.

From Bad Straight to Worse
Until that behavior abruptly changes.
Without warning, several of the dinosaurs suddenly thrash as if in fury or pain or both, slamming themselves against walls and roaring as loud as their lungs will allow. When the fits pass, the creatures... change. Formerly peaceful plant-eaters suddenly become violent and aggressive and the predators... well, the predators only get worse.
But what could be causing this sudden swing? The only hint might come in the angry red light shining deep in their eyes....
And the cloying scent of dark magic hanging in the air around them, clearly detectable by anybody sensitive to its presence.
[OOC: So, yeah, welcome to Keldek's first move as a bad guy. He's done something to the dinosaurs to transform them into vicious, aggressive attack machines. Affected dinosaurs will attack everyone and everything they see but can be stopped if the enchantment is broken.
Dinos can be NPCed by you, or I'll take the reigns. Just let me know in your reply if you have a preference.]

From her hip, though, she feels a certain stiffness for a second, before a panicked voice calls up to her. "I sense the movement of darkness... but that can't be right! There can't be Selfish in this world, can there?"
Her blood runs cold, and despite herself, Diamond shivers. "Movement of... no." It meant one of two things. Either someone who could make those terrible monsters that preyed on people's insecurities had found a new life in this world, or, well... someone else that could make a similar one had. Maybe one of the enemies of Lily's team, or perhaps... someone new entirely? Maybe it wasn't even related to the Precure.
For now, that's not important. Cure Diamond has a duty, one she won't hesitate to fulfill. "Okay, Raquel. We're going in. It's going to be all right... I won't let anything happen." Her eyes narrow, and she crouches for half a second, before she springs into the sky. "I'll protect everyone...!"
She hasn't figured out what direction it's coming from. If it was above her or on the ground with her. She doesn't have any information at all, but that's never stopped her before.
[If you want to throw something at Winter yourself, go for it♪ Diamond may not be the only Cure, once things get nasty, but we can work something out if need be.]

They weren't going to go full giant robot here, not unless it was the only way, but it left Marina dodging and ducking and diving much more often, firing off spells without hesitation, now, to keep the monsters at bay.
These were definitely monsters, now, rather than simple animals, and the ankylosaurus that seemed to be intent on turning her into a bloody smear on the pavement really highlighted that.

She doesn't want to shift into form right away; seeing the Precure running around might cause a little more panic than having the extra power would be worth. So for now, she'll take advantage of the boost in speed and strength she has without it to jet around the city and begin rescuing everyone she can find that needs the help. She's not the best of fighters like this, but she's no slouch. Getting hit will be the end of her, but she'll take that risk. There's no time to lose, right?
At some point, a little later on, she realizes they can't keep going on as they are - someone's going to get hurt, and it's probably going to be Lily or herself. That's about the time she lands in the square, and growls as she sees they're still not out of the woods. Without even looking to make sure the girl's behind her, she starts, "Lily... I think we need more firepower. Should we get started?"
no subject
"Honestly, they're going to panic no matter what we do. I'm ready if you are; I don't fancy trying to actually outrun a raptor when playing normal."
Banter is good. It masks the fact, to probably anyone but Winter, that she's sort of scared out of her mind. This is the first they've seen of something on this scale in so long... what the hell did it all mean?

Gateway City - Action: Open
"Sh...shit! What do I do?" His bewilderment seems to override any other emotion he has before the monster moves toward him. He lets out a yelp as he turns and runs as fast as his legs will allow, ducking as many corners as he can find. He's not sure if the big buildings will provide much of a shield, but it's got to be better than nothing.
"You can't be serious! Tell me I'm dreaming!" If he is, this is the most vivid dream he's ever had.
He collapses after turning the next corner, fighting desperately to catch his breath in the alleyway. What is he supposed to do with real live dinosaurs?
"This is like some bad nineties movie..." He frowns as he gulps and reaches into his pocket to retrieve his phone. He pulls up Winter's information and selects her Numbered number. "She said this one was for emergencies right? ...And this is an emergency...!"
He pushes dial and.... the gets an automated operator with an error message. A look of pure terror crosses Blaise's face. He quickly dials the number again and the same thing happens again. Great. It was a fake number girls hand out to people they don't like. Sweat drips down Blaise's face as he feels the ground tremble from the large footsteps nearby. He gets up and bolts down the street, squeezing his phone hard in his sweaty palm. 'This is it. I'm going to die! I didn't even get to figure out what I want to do with my life, or admit my crushes, or tell my parents goodbye! Crap!'
He stumbles and falls to his knees, fighting back tears as much as he knows how. A couple escape. Amidst his teary eyes, he sees something appear on his left wrist. A silver bracelet with a winged red heart. It's kind of cool that it has wings like his shield necklace, the thought briefly grazes his mind. But what follows is much more prominent.
"What... What the fuck is that?"
He shakes his head a little. Seeing the bracelet for some reason urged him to have hope. He picks up his phone again. This time, he dials Winter's personal cell phone and calls it. He lets go of the breath he was holding when he hears it ring.
[voice]
...she doesn't have his number. Oops.
It's at about this time, as she jumps off an electrical box, springs from an awning, and lands on a very low roof to escape a pursuing beast, that her phone rings. For a moment, she doesn't move; it just shocks her. Here she's running for her life, and she has a phone call? But when she pulls out her earpiece, she shakes her head, before clicking the button and starting to walk away from the roof's edge. "Yes, this is Winter," she says by way of greeting; it comes out a little tense, given the flying things she can see not terribly far from here, but it's serviceable.

While holding close to Winter's position for both obvious and tactical reasons, Lily's still a fairly noticeable figure heading into the zoo. The purple hair coupled with her height does still make her stick out like a sore thumb, after all.
It's pretty easy to see just what they're facing from afar though, at least as far as certain creatures are concerned. Some of which... well, their very presence is assuredly tearing the place asunder. At a point, she catches a glimpse of a T-Rex from a considerable distance away, and stops short of breath.
What comes out of her mouth isn't anything she should be focused on, really. There's civilians to save, and what happened to the animals in there? No, what comes out of her mouth is... well, she sounds rather offended when she blurts out: "Why don't they have feathers?"
...it's a coping mechanism. Bear with her.
[B - Precure]
Late to join his partner, having been... well, absently sight seeing around the city at the time, Cure Moonlight's fairy partner Cologne gives quite an awful shriek. Really, far, far more shrill than you'd ever expect with his generally deeper-than-anticipated voice. This is because as he comes down towards his partner, there's another cry as a raptor leaps out of the bushes right for him as he nears Moonlight.
She catches it, mind you. More specifically, him, as she bounces back and snatches him out of the air, flipping back through it and landing as she skids back along the ground, and the raptor...
Well, it gets a face full of energy before she leaps much further away, attempting to clear a distance while still keeping her allies in sight. "You could be a little more careful," she says.
He just... gulps, audibly.
B
After a bit of business elsewhere, and a bunch of winged reptiles deciding Jasmine's flying was a threat to their being in the skies, Jasmine heard a loud scream. A scream belonging to a voice she recognized, albeit in a form quite different from what she's used to hearing. Fretting, she races towards the sound, just in time to see Moonlight pullling Cologne to safety and then blasting a velociraptor in the face.
"Lily!" she cries, swooping down. "Are you okay? Is Cologne alright?!"
Jasmine may be more than a little concerned for the fairy. Her memories do contain her playing a part in something horrible happening to him,, after all.

Jasmine woke up in New Zealand and turned on the news to find something literally impossible was going on in Gateway. Dinosaurs. Dinosaursof all things. Completely inaccurate ones too, but that was academic solidarity born from her father's chosen profession.
This was different from the damn santas and grinches and the various other monsters that cropped up over a year ago. It was like something from another time, place, or world had appeared right in front of them.
he can't really hesitate to get involved, and she figures with Lily and Winter here she can't afford to rest on her laurels. So, after checking in with Marina, she transformed and hoofed it to the teleporter. On the other side, she found the nearest window, opened it, and jumped out, taking wing.
That... was not exactly her wisest course of action, because no sooner than she was in the skies, was she set upon by a bunch of pterosaurs, who took issue with her being in the air. At least five of the smaller ones swarmed her, biting and scratching at her and trying to pull her down to the ground.
"Oh for the love of...!" Jasmine screamed as she flew low over the streets, pulling more of them off of her. But no mattter what she did, more of the "flock" set upon her.
[B]
After all of that, and some other things, Jasmine was looking a bit worse for wear. She needed a moment... even with her strength and speed, these creatures were a test of her endurance. Gritting her teeth, and grabbing her shoulder where she'd been bit, she found a nearby wall to set herself against.
"Stupid freaking dinosaurs... never going another Cretaceous Zone movie agaiin..."
And that's when a loud crash got her attention, and she saw a Triceratops smashing through a number of parked cars. Angry, the beast bellowed, before beginning its angry, terrified rampage anew, sure to cause yet more property damage.
Jasmine groaned as she tried to pick herself up. "Today... really... suuuucks..."
B
Before its hind legs lift off the ground. Then the rest of it. The Triceratops hovers there in midair for a second before slamming back down to the ground with an earthshaking crash and flops over onto its back, stunned.
Now on the other side of it, Raye dusts off her hands and then lifts her head, spotting her friend getting up to her feet.
"Hey, Jas, did you see that?" She pointed toward the upturned dinosaur. You could practically see the crabby teenage girls running circles over its head. "I just piledrived a fuckin' dinosaur!"

Rakka always did want to see more of Gatewater City. This was not the way she wanted it to happen, though, by any means.
Dinosaurs! Real dinosaurs were literally popping out of nowhere and walking around, and throwing the city into chaos! And it wasn't just the city either, the television back in Shepard's Haven had been shouting every few seconds about it, live film and all. Though whatever reporters that were still around were probably in danger of becoming a snack for hungry dinos.
Thankfully, Rakka was on the scene sooner rather then later. She made her way into the zoo... stopping a small distance away to snap a few photos of the dinos on her phone.
"Whoa!" ...What? She's on the case!
[B: Dogfighting...kinda]
The fighting was getting tiring after a while. There were only so many raptors you could punch before it started to lose its luster. But Rakka was holding firm, and didn't let the dinos get far out of her sight... until she heard a voice cut through the chaos.
"Cure Feather!!" That voice, tiny and young but still echoing in Rakka's ears... And it was joined by the screeching of Pterosaurs.
"...Fougere? Fougere!"
She doesn't see her fairy partner, not at first. It's only when she looks into the sky that she spots the small, grey and white fairy struggling in the grip of a nasty Pterosaur. "Heeeeelp!" He cried out, surely afraid of what Rakka could consider becoming a snack.
There didn't need to be second thoughts, as Rakka quickly sprung off the ground after them. The first punch she threw missed, the Pterosaur looping and swooping through the air to avoid her. She could leap in strides still, though without Fougere's powers, true flight wasn't in her hands. And that was bad.
To make matters worse, there was the rest of the swarm of flying lizards that decided to mess with Rakka. "Ghh... Hold on, Fougere! I'll save you!" Somehow.
B! Also, mind if Celine turns up to help too?
"Rakka!"
As for the fairynapping Pteranodon, it's about to get a vampire smashing into it's face with a red and very sharp spear.

That's how it started anyway.
What's going on now is a crowd of people rushing out the doors of a TV studio, harried by the smaller flying dinosaurs that swoop and snap at them. For a time, it seems like a dark situation indeed... until a girl in a sparkling yellow dress swoops down from the sky and kicks one of the flying lizards down the street.
Landing lightly, she spins around and casts a hail of tiny star-shaped bolts into the flock of Dimorphodon. With her free hand. Because her other hand is currently occupied with holding a cell phone close to her ear, a cell phone with the screaming voice of her agent on the other end.
"No-- no, really, I'm fine. I got away, no problem, totally safe. You just worry about yourself and I'll meet up with you later." A pause as the voice on the other end shouts something else, and she glances around, pausing for a moment. "... What screaming?"
The resulting hollering from the speaker makes her wince and hold the phone a little further from her ear. Sigh. Being a superhero is tougher than it looks on TV.

The eyepatched magic knight knocks a bunch of something tiny with lots of pointy bits aside with a blast of water - she'd have to ask Jasmine what the hell those are later - before stopping to look at the magical girl on the phone.
Her eyes go wide after a moment. Oh hey, she's probably heard something about this girl from someone already, and here she is, and also here is a larger dinosaur trundling up behind her not so much to attack as to completely ignore her existence while it goes on its way. "Hey! Yoohoo! You might wanna move!"

He doesn't release his full power along the way, simply uses his speed and ability to stand in midair to hurry downtown through the sky.
And before long, he isn't alone in the air, narrowly dodging a screeching pterosaur swooping down at him. He's probably safe from that for the moment; it'll take a minute for it to get back up at him if it wants another shot. More important is that pachycephalosaur rushing a crowd below.
"Souten ni zase, Hyourinmaru!"
He sweeps his blade around in a wide arc, a dragon of ice flowing along it, and another swipe sends the dragon plowing into the charging dinosaur, knocking it clean off its feet seconds before its head would have smashed into someone. Eyes alert, he keeps watch for anyone in need of a little more aerial intervention.
[[OOC: Totally content with NPC-ing the dinos myself and with other characters.]]

All this advice is completely contingent on not being caught in the open from the very start. He's not unarmed, but powerful magnets like his are completely useless against beings with no metal in them. He has no time to stop and plan when he's running for his life. Great footsteps pound the pavement as the crowd he's in scatters, and he hears a sharp twist as the creature shifts direction to follow--
'Souten ni zase, Hyourinmaru!' A whisper of of something cutting through air, and then a huge impact, followed by an even bigger landing. Cesar slows, snapping around to look.
The dome-headed dinosaur is down. Ice and water have flown in all directions. In the air, like a puppet master conducting a show, Toushirou still holds his blade. Cesar stops and waves widely, trying to catch his attention.

This is a little different though. Fucking dinosaurs rampaging through the streets, man! It had been a year since anything like this had happened and while she had certainly been happy for that time, for somebody like Raye who almost thrived off of a good fight... it had felt like a very long time.
She'd been fighting for what felt like hours now and paused to take a rest, leaning against a dented street lamp and frowning a bit. Man, as nuts as all this is there's definitely something missing somehow. Most of the predator types were smaller and even though they were nasty, they weren't really putting up much of a fight against her power and her Scissor Blade and the bigger ones were pretty much minding their own business until something messed with them so taking the first shot just felt kind of lousy. There's gotta be something around here, that--
--that's about when her thoughts are cut off by a massive crash and she looks up just in time to see a very large mouth full of very large teeth slam shut on her.
.....
Moments later, a humanoid form goes flying across the street like a cannonball. She crashes through the glass of a stormfront and knocks aside mannequins and crashes through store displays before coming to a stop. The Scissor Blade clatters to the ground on the sidewalk. Outside, the ground shakes as one of the larger dinosaurs stomps into the road, growling at a long, bleeding gash in the side of its head that its prey had inflicted.
Just a few seconds pass and a pair of shoes hit the ground, crunching glass and catching the animal's attention. A blood-soaked hand reaches down and picks up the discarded weapon.
"Okay. That's more like it." Raye grins as she straightens up, clothes torn up and bloodied. Glittering red threads crisscross the grisly wounds in her body where teeth had impaled her, already pulling them shut. She raises her head, tightens her grip on the weapon and yells upward. "YO! LET'S DO THIS, BITCH!"
The tyrannosaurus answers her challenge with a mighty roar.
[Some NPCing would be great here but I can also take the rex myself. Raye might gripe a little that she wanted this one for herself is help arrives but all are welcome to step in if they so choose! Or stand by and popcorn. Whatever.]
no subject
But then she'd been transported here. Here to this city of stone and iron, where some narrow-snouted upstart with a sail tried to attack her and break her neck. She'd rebuffed that so-called rival easily enough, but even then, she was still trapped in this world of tiny, annoying creatures. Creatures who screamed and shot at her and were far more numerous than the ones who used to inhabit her island and feed her goats.
She just wanted to take a bite out of one of them. Take out her frustrations. But then her plaything had fought back. Hurt her. Taken out some of her teeth, left a wound across her jaw. Who knew whether or not she'd be able to ward off other rivals now?
No. No, this little creature wasn't like the others, was she? She could smell it now. It was different. And now it was flailing about, challenging her. The tyrannosaurus roared in anger, and charged at Raye at full speed. She would make this little creature pay.

Her excuse for getting involved would be to get the chance to fight dinosaurs, it's nothing to do with people getting hurt. Really. The first unfriendly dinosaur she sees, though, is getting introduced to Gungnir.
[NPCing would be welcome, since she'll challenge the biggest, baddest dinos she can find. Basically, challenging alphas when she's not wreaking havoc on dinos in general.]

Though, until today, he didn't realize that having a zoo with dinosaurs is possibly the coolest thing ever. And also super dangerous. But, come on, dinosaurs.
It probably shouldn't surprise anyone that the dinosaurs manage to escape. Zoos aren't really equipped for that kind of thing. Phillip would like to not fight them, for a variety of reasons, but if anyone could clearly use some help then he will. Or they could always try to 'rescue' the boy from the ones he keeps approaching.

Sadly, this doesn't surprise him, either.
He's at Phillip's side almost instantaneously, blade still out, but lowered. And of course, his own reaction to all of this? A vaguely resigned: "Why am I not suprised?"
No, he isn't worried about Phillip's physical well-being. It's isn't like anything can actually kill him.
