Echo Incursion 01 - Jurassic Gateway (August 10th, 2016)

It's a particularly hot day in the Gateway City zoo. What else could you expect? It's not like it's not to be expected, it is the middle of August, after all. But there's plenty of things to see here at the zoo, and the visitors' center is air conditioned well enough.

Just a normal summer day in a typical summer vacation spot. Right?

Well, that's when things change. Those in the visitor's center would find the building changing around them. There's suddenly a dinosaur skeleton in the middle of the place, with the banner "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" hanging from the ceiling.

That's not all. The animal enclosures are now different. What used to be a pen for the african elephants now has very large, very long necked reptiles in it. A gigantic, meat-eating dinosaur just tromped its way out of the lion habitat it's too much too large for, and unfortunately for the people around it, its vision is based on movement. The monkey house? Well, those are velociraptors breaking out of it. The aviary? Now filled with particular aggressive flying pterosaurs.

These are just some of the creatures making their sudden emergence, and it's not long until they spill out of the zoo and into the city proper. Dinosaurs are now walking the streets of Gateway City.

Yes, indeed. Just a normal summer day.

Well, it sorta shoved the thing away a little bit. So, that could've gone worse, but it should've gone much better. By the time it's up and moving, Marina was as well, she took off, weaving off to the side, hopefully much more agile - and hopefully not getting slammed in the head by the power of that tail.

She might really need Seles, and she looked around for any other alternatives, like a flying friend or... or anything at all.

Marina does at least have the edge in agility, if lagging behind terribly in strength and size, and intelligence as well. The animal is simple-minded to begin with and that isn't helped by its mind being clouded by such fury.

Its size carries it forward as Marina slips aside again, and its head crashes into a parked car, flipping it right over onto its back. For the moment, its temper seems to get the better of it and it rears up to bring its feet down on the flipped vehicle, smashing the metal into a flattened pancake.

For the moment, its attention seems to be off Marina at least. Although that tail is still swinging wildly.

Good job! Fight that car. Hopefully the owner's insurance covers dinosaur rampages. While it's distracted, Marina decides that it's time to clear out and try taking a different angle.

Running really fast.

If there's dark magic afoot, she wants a Cure to come along and... and... cure it... and that means she doesn't want to kill the big lug, so she takes off at a pretty normal athletic human speed. At the same time, she mentally calls out to Seles to be present and at the ready for some mecha action, if only to keep her from getting crushed if the ankylosaurus turns back around too quickly.

It doesn't take very long at all before the offending car is smashed into a nice metal pancake. With that obstacle well dealt with it raises its head again to look for something else to smash... and then spots the tiny thing that had been bothering it far away and running for the hills.

That should be enough. Chasing off the bothersome pest but something... compels it onward. Something that won't be satisfied until the creature is smashed to paste under its feet. The ankylosaurus roars after Marina and then begins rumbling after her.

She's got a good head start and the first few steps are rather slow but... it isn't going to take too long before it starts building up speed.

Nope this is the worst, she's going to be squished if she doesn't do something more than run away and fire off magic - because this thing doesn't seem to be tiring out at all. There's definitely dark juju afoot given how doggedly it's chasing her, and, with little other recourse, Umi calls out to Seles.

The dragon flashes into its mech form, and, soaring down across the city, skids to a stop in front of her. Another beam of light sucks her up into its body, and as she turns, she holds out a hand to try to cushion the dinosaur instead of letting it run head first into a giant metal leg.

The dinosaur doesn't even hesitate in the face of the giant mecha suddenly appearing in its path. Sadly, as big and powerful as it is, it really... isn't much in the face of a giant, magical robot so it slams right into Seles' hand and stumbles back a few steps.

... Doesn't mean it's not going to damn well do its best though! Metal hand or not, the ankylosaurus goes right back on the attack, swinging its tail wildly at the robot.

"Okay big guy, you can-" It's still going. This thing is bigger and harder, and it's still going at her. Umi sighs, twisting Seles' hand to catch the club, letting it push the hand so that the dinosaur remained unharmed. Hopefully being in a mech didn't cause any sort of panic while she tried to tire this thing out. "Come on! I'm huge! Just - go away! Jeez..."

It's not stopping. At all. The last metal thing it attacked had been crushed and smashed under its weight easily, so why should this one be any different?

Driven onward by unquenchable anger it lunges again and again, slamming into the big metal hand. ... Marina might need to do something about this.

Okay, this thing might be able to dent Seles if it kept this up long enough, and at that point it'd probably hurt itself too. Grumbling, Umi reached out to grab it, struggling with it to try and flip it over like a poor little stranded turtle.

"Just... just nap!"

Well... that certainly seems to be a plan. The ankylosaurus kicks and thrashes when the big robot picks it up. Even tries to bite it a couple of times... but before you know it, it's flipped over onto its big shell. With its legs kicking in the air as it rolls back and forth and roars and huffs in helpless rage.

World's angriest little stranded turtle is what it is.

"It's over here, Rakka! I can feel it!" Fougere's little voice, clearly shaken by the new dark presence he felt, ringing out.

"Marina!" Cure Feather skidded to a perfect stop a few meters away from the robot, stopping to call out to her friend. She seemed... to pretty much have the situation under control, honestly. But it never hurt to check. "What's going on?"

Oh thank heavens she was hoping she wouldn't have to babysit a rageosaurus for too long. Marina raised one of Seles' hands, waving back at Rakka before pointing down at the flipped dinosaur. "Some kinda dark magic got into this scaly angry dude here. You uh... you're Pretty Cure after all, that's in your wheelhouse, right?"

"Uh..." Never a dull moment in the lives of her team, it seemed. Rakka looks from the raging dino to the giant robot, and she manages a nod. "R-right! I am, so that's what we're gonna do, right Fougere?"

It only takes a flick of the wrist and a pose before Rakka finds her Feather Tact in her hands. With it, she stared down their trapped foe.

"Better get out of the way, Marina!"

Nope! Rakka can totally do this though for sure. "I think I'm pure enough, thanks, but I guess I'll give you an open shot."

Umi backs off, slowly, keeping a close eye on everything.

"I-I didn't-" Oh, forget it. They were already so busy now, and no time could be afforded for dumb apologies. There was about seven tons of extremely emotionally bothered reptile trying to rock back onto its feet, and Rakka couldn't let that happen without giving it a little "Helping Hand"!

"Gather, Power of Flowers!" Feather tact held high, Rakka began to feel the power generated inside, forming like an arrow, and the tact as the quiver. She drew it up, generating a powerful ball of energy on the tip... and let it fly. "White... Forte Wave!"

Just breath. Remember your footing. You can do this.

The blast connects, suspending the raging Saur in midair behind a flower. Quite the sight, for anyone that may be watching at the time. Rakka was focused hardcore, spinning her tact with slowly increasing speed.

Come on.... work!

The blast of light strikes the overturned dinosaur dead on and lifts it up in the air amid a spinning flower. For a brief moment the two energies seem to struggle against each other, corrupting darkness against purifying light, before there's a brilliant flash and the red light in the dinosaur's eyes flicker out and disappear. The evil power finally wiped away.

The dinosaur lands back on its feet rather gently in front of Cure Feather and shakes its head, looking around in a daze before its eyes fall on her.

... And then it leans its head down and licks her.

"HoooooooooOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAH...!!!"

Flashy, almost theatrical movements marked Cure Feather's attempt at a purification - the first one that Rakka had attempted in months. The Tact was still perfectly fitted to her hand, and the magical light flowed naturally, washing over the dinosaur... and the vicious darkness within it.

Fougere was right! There's something really wrong with all of this...!

But as quickly as it started, the darkness was swept away, and the ~~stock scene~~ final blasts of light face away, and the beast is slowly sat down on its feet.

A long few seconds stretch by, and Rakka begins to worry if she might have to fight again... until the beast decides to repay her for her help. There are worse things then dino slobber in your hair.

"Ah.... hehe, you're welcome!"

By the time the purification has finished, Marina's already on the ground, Seles kneeling down behind her. Grinning, hands on her hips, she walks up to her totally awesome and successful magical girl friend and the newly purified dinosaur, then applauds slowly.

"You might have to un-transform and re-transform to fix your hair now," is her absolutely necessary input. "Thanks though. Think we oughta look for more like that one?"

Ankylosaurs may be among the bigger, more aggressive herbivores in the city, but in this case it seems to recognize that the girl in front of it helped it escape from the painful rage that had consumed it. Or maybe the blast of positive energy just helped put it in a good mood.

In either case, Rakka's not the only one being targeted by its gratitude! It gives her a gentle bump with its snout before turning to Marina to thank her as well. Cue another giant slobbey lick!

Marina you are far too kind, but your light applause reminds Rakka that she's not alone at the moment. Lo, there is still someone around, and Rakka instantly feels a small flash of embarrassment as she turns to Marina.

"Y-yeah, probably." She draws her hand through her hair, trying to wipe the spit out and just slicking it up as a result. "If there's one creature suffering like this, then there might be others we have to help."

....Pffff. Okay, she's letting out a little laugh. Dinosaur kisses for all. "I think he likes us now."

Marina can't fix her hair. There is no hope. Her hair is now a big sloppy mess, and she staggers away, laughing, yet also really grossed out. "Okay, wow, jeez, I get it, you appreciate the help!"

Stepping back, trying to ignore the slicked-over mess, she puts her hands on her hips. "Maybe not get licked by all the others, yeah?"

Rakka has much of the same reaction, even if her hair is short enough, and messy enough, that it doesn't matter if she gets a gallon of drool on it. Oh well, at least they matched now. "He really does!" She frowns. "O-or she. It might be a girl."

Just going to continue to wipe that drool off her forehead. It's mixed success here. "Yeah... We should try not to do that."

Lucky girl, not having Umi Ryuuzaki's giant blue hair to make a big mess out of. Marina pats the big dinosaur on the leg anyways, although she's sure to avoid the whole face portion of it. "Or girl. Maybe Jas would have a guess."

"Now, let's get a move on."

Poor Marina's hair, they knew it well.

"We'll ask later. Let's make sure there's no more of these dinos suffering like this!"

There's that little look of determination that Rakka sometimes has. It's as adorable as it was a flash of true heroism shining through. It's time to be a hero again!
