Echo Incursion 01 - Jurassic Gateway (August 10th, 2016)

It's a particularly hot day in the Gateway City zoo. What else could you expect? It's not like it's not to be expected, it is the middle of August, after all. But there's plenty of things to see here at the zoo, and the visitors' center is air conditioned well enough.

Just a normal summer day in a typical summer vacation spot. Right?

Well, that's when things change. Those in the visitor's center would find the building changing around them. There's suddenly a dinosaur skeleton in the middle of the place, with the banner "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" hanging from the ceiling.

That's not all. The animal enclosures are now different. What used to be a pen for the african elephants now has very large, very long necked reptiles in it. A gigantic, meat-eating dinosaur just tromped its way out of the lion habitat it's too much too large for, and unfortunately for the people around it, its vision is based on movement. The monkey house? Well, those are velociraptors breaking out of it. The aviary? Now filled with particular aggressive flying pterosaurs.

These are just some of the creatures making their sudden emergence, and it's not long until they spill out of the zoo and into the city proper. Dinosaurs are now walking the streets of Gateway City.

Yes, indeed. Just a normal summer day.

Dinosaurs running amok out of the zoo of all places were hardly something even the most unobservant people were going to miss. In Emi's case, though, she was on the scene as soon as she heard about it, hard not to with the sounds coming from the city were certainly not the usual sounds.

Arthur's out but sure to become involved, but still she sends him a message before grabbing her parasol and heading out the door at top speed...

Her excuse for getting involved would be to get the chance to fight dinosaurs, it's nothing to do with people getting hurt. Really. The first unfriendly dinosaur she sees, though, is getting introduced to Gungnir.

[NPCing would be welcome, since she'll challenge the biggest, baddest dinos she can find. Basically, challenging alphas when she's not wreaking havoc on dinos in general.]

What Emi immediately comes across is a grocer being raised by various dinosaurs. Compys, ever the scavegers, are attacking the frozen meats and ransacking the deli. Some of them are picking through the cereals, others are pulling bottles off of shelves, and still others are tearing at the assorted candies.

Meanwhile, the produce section has attracted the attention of a small herd of pachys, who have successfully knocked over store fixtures and are hungrily devouring the vegetables and fruit the store has to offer.

Well, not exactly a T-Rex, or even raptors... She's actually kind of disappointed, really! They aren't hurting anyone directly but she's going to give them a distraction in the form of something she uses rarely... Her danmaku.

The dinosaurs world is suddenly filled with balls of crimson energy, and each one hits with the force of a punch but... it's not too accurate. And maybe drive all the little ones away and disorientate those headbutting dinos.

Several of them saw the attack coming, but many of them didn't. Within seconds, a number of the compys were screeching in fear and confusion, while the larger pachycephalosaurs... well. What do you think happened when you threw a baseball at a large bull?

They turned towards Emi, and their nostrils flared in anger.

And that was when they charged at her.

"I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?" As they charged, Emilia willed Gungnir into her hands, the spear appearing in a flash of crimson light, then she made use of her vampiric reflexes to both dodge the three charging her and lash out with her spear.

A bunch of scaled bull wannabes should be easy to deal with... Emi was nothing if not confident.

The pachys are stupid, thuggish brutes, and what's more, they're not watching where they're going. So Emi is able to easily dodge them, and when she lashes out with her spear, it pierces one of them in the side, causing the herbivore to let out a lamentable cry of pain, before shrinking back and bellowing like the frightened animal it is.

The others... end up hitting the wall behind her, and just about fall all over each other. In moments, they're up, but their aggression is directed at each other now... and before long, they're wacking each other with those domed heads of their's.

Yes. Pachys are stupid.

They clearly aren't very bright at all! Now if she could deal with them without them causing any more damage to everything around them, that would be good.

At least they're focused on each other rather than anything else around. And all of the little ones seem distracted at the moment. Just as she turns to see what the wounded Pachy was doing, she didn't notice the piece of fruit on the floor... And of course she promptly steps on and slips backwards, crashing to the ground with a cry.

There is a minor good factor in all of this. There was still one person who had been flying about, trying to find someone she knew. And she found Emi..although not in the best of spots. Dani growls and sends out a wave of red colored magical bullets to surround Emi. In a protective circle for the moment as she lands near, ready to fight back.

"Emi!"

By now, it's as if the young women might as well not even be there at all as far as the dinos are concerned, because two of the pachys are fighting each other, and the third can't even stand. The compys have the attention spans of seagulls, and are going back to raiding the grocery's wares.

By this point, any customers or employees left in the store have given up, and are running for the exit.

"I'm alright, Dani."

It really didn't look like the dinos were about to attack them anymore, leaving them open to being knocked out by Emi's danmaku shots... And she's firing a lot of them.
