Echo Incursion 01 - Jurassic Gateway (August 10th, 2016)
It's a particularly hot day in the Gateway City zoo. What else could you expect? It's not like it's not to be expected, it is the middle of August, after all. But there's plenty of things to see here at the zoo, and the visitors' center is air conditioned well enough.
Just a normal summer day in a typical summer vacation spot. Right?
Well, that's when things change. Those in the visitor's center would find the building changing around them. There's suddenly a dinosaur skeleton in the middle of the place, with the banner "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" hanging from the ceiling.
That's not all. The animal enclosures are now different. What used to be a pen for the african elephants now has very large, very long necked reptiles in it. A gigantic, meat-eating dinosaur just tromped its way out of the lion habitat it's too much too large for, and unfortunately for the people around it, its vision is based on movement. The monkey house? Well, those are velociraptors breaking out of it. The aviary? Now filled with particular aggressive flying pterosaurs.
These are just some of the creatures making their sudden emergence, and it's not long until they spill out of the zoo and into the city proper. Dinosaurs are now walking the streets of Gateway City.
Yes, indeed. Just a normal summer day.

You know what? Feel free to have raptors just chew her up for this one. FULL LENIENCY GRANTED
She blinked, turning her head at the sudden cry and following Jasmine's gaze to. ... Another dinosaur. All five feet of one anyway. What the hell? Jasmine was worried about that thing? Sure, it had some nasty looking claws and teeth but after the big guy she'd just bodyslammed, this thing was a small fry!
"What, this thing?" She scoffed. "Pfft. I'll take care of it, gimme a sec."
And then, heedless of any warnings Jasmine might try to give, she lunges straight at the approaching raptor.

Before Jasmine could finish, two more raptors sprang out from the side, leaping and tearing at Raye with the claws on their hands and feet. Jasmine cursed and sped forward, grabbing one by its tail and swinging it away.
That, however, left one more... plus the original raptor, who took the opportunity to stop being a decoy and jumped at Raye as well.

Mid-lunge as she was, the ambush went off without a hitch and Raye barely had time to react before teeth and claws tore into her. It was a precise, almost surgical attack as well. Her typical reactive curse was cut off as a claw slashed across her throat. She hit the ground as claws slit tendons to immobilize her and arteries to bleed her out. Of course, her healing factor kept that from happening but even it was hard-pressed to keep up with the damage being done to her. Even when Jasmine tossed one of them away, for the moment it was all she could do to flail and kick at the animals intent on turning her into mincemeat.
... But at least now Jasmine knew what "shithead motherfucker" sounded like in gurgle.

So with the one tossed away, she surged at the next one, and with her speed and strength, grabbed the raptor in mid-swipe. With a scream, she flew up, aimed downward, and piledrived the second raptor into the third.
Both beasts crumpled to the ground, and Jasmine stood there with an expression of cold, absolute fury, her chest rising and falling with each breath.

She turned her head, lifting it enough to clearly see the look of anger in Jasmine's face and for a moment it sent a chill down her spine. The dinosaurs were alive, but they'd definitely come close. She tried to say something, but it came out as a rather unpleasant wheeze. Apparently her throat and lungs were going to need another few seconds.
Instead, she slowly raised one arm toward Jasmine, closed her fingers... and then slowly extended her thumb.
She's okay, folks!

"Raye... you're healing right, aren't you?" she said, managing to put a decent amount of concern and care into her voice, despite how she'd been affected.
no subject
"Hhhhyup...." A pause, and a sound not unlike somebody clearing their throat and her voice is clear. "Yup. No problem."
There was a shuffling sound as she pushed herself up to her feet, the last few gashes and tears closing up in a glimmer of luminous threads. You wouldn't know that just a minute ago she was being torn to shreds by velociraptors. Although, her clothes were in pretty bad shape... not that that was anything new to her. Everything that mattered was still covered so it was all good.
"Okay, I'm good." She rolled a shoulder, flexed her hand. "Thanks for the assist there."
no subject
"Yeah, well, that's good then," she said, turning back around. "And you don't need to thank me... that's what friends are for, right?"
no subject
Well, that and she knew what dying felt like, and it didn't hurt. Pain wasn't the scary part.
"Yeah, well, thanks anyway." She looked over, checking to make sure that her Scissor Blades were still hanging at her side before looking toward the dinosaurs. "Guess we got more lizards to tie up now."
no subject
"You know, the last time we fought a bunch of monsters we didn't have to tie them up. This job is getting more and more tedious."
no subject
... She could have sounded less eager to start fighting once more.
