Echo Incursion 01 - Jurassic Gateway (August 10th, 2016)

It's a particularly hot day in the Gateway City zoo. What else could you expect? It's not like it's not to be expected, it is the middle of August, after all. But there's plenty of things to see here at the zoo, and the visitors' center is air conditioned well enough.

Just a normal summer day in a typical summer vacation spot. Right?

Well, that's when things change. Those in the visitor's center would find the building changing around them. There's suddenly a dinosaur skeleton in the middle of the place, with the banner "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" hanging from the ceiling.

That's not all. The animal enclosures are now different. What used to be a pen for the african elephants now has very large, very long necked reptiles in it. A gigantic, meat-eating dinosaur just tromped its way out of the lion habitat it's too much too large for, and unfortunately for the people around it, its vision is based on movement. The monkey house? Well, those are velociraptors breaking out of it. The aviary? Now filled with particular aggressive flying pterosaurs.

These are just some of the creatures making their sudden emergence, and it's not long until they spill out of the zoo and into the city proper. Dinosaurs are now walking the streets of Gateway City.

Yes, indeed. Just a normal summer day.

[OOC: The new event is live! Please see this post for npc information and just what characters will have to deal with.]

Edwin's eyes widen as... the creatures attacking his feet suddenly stop, and being screeching and hissing up at Torin. He looks up, recognition crossing his face, standing there as the other victims scream and run for it, leaving them alone with the dinosaurs.

"You... you're from the network!" Weller cries, stepping forward. He does not watch his step, and ends up treading over two of the small reptiles. "I-It's me! Dr. Edwin Weller! We spoke the other day...!

"Ah, so it is you!" Torin takes a couple more quick shots at a couple more of the dinosaurs, inducing that temporary dizziness. "I must admit, I'd hoped we'd meet under more pleasant circumstances. Are you all right? I can fly you to safety."

Weller could easily speed out of here, but he's not sure about the limits of his speed and isn't in the mood to waste it now.

"I'm not sure!" he said, kicking away one of the dizzied dinosaurs that ended up falling across his foot. "This is a fascinating phenomenon... perhaps you could help me capture one of these beasts...!"

"Certainly...but what do you plan on doing with it?" Because Torin's very committed to dinosaur welfare.

He is also fearlessly reaching down to pick up one of the stunned dinosaurs. "Calm down, little one, I'll not hurt you."

"Do with it...?" Weller replied, sounding confused. "Study it, of course! Its behavior, its anatomy... these creatures are a whole new life form! They're the answer to hundreds of paleontological and biological mysteries...!"

Torin's fussing over the dinosaur he's holding, shushing it and giving it a small bop on the nose like he might do to an unruly child when it tries to bite him on the thumb. "Ah, forgive me if it was a strange question--I've seen a lot of people keeping pets they shouldn't. And dinosaurs this size might make a few people get ideas in that regard."

He laughs. "They're not really new. Just returned after a very long time. He's examining the dinosaur he's holding again. "Though where are your feathers...?"

"I see, well," he said. "Trust me, my intentions are to find out the absolute best way to care for them. Don't you think you'd rather trust another Numbered than, say... Factor Industries? They're more likely to see these animals caged... perhaps dissected!"

He smiled. "Questions like that are ones I hope to answer..."
radiantchicken: (there are really)

[personal profile] radiantchicken 2015-08-23 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, dissection would not be the way I'd want to see them treated. Numbered care is infinitely preferable to some of the alternatives." Torin's now stroking the small dinosaur he's picked up, trying to soothe it. "I've a lot of strong opinions on proper zoological care. And dinosaurs.

Weller nodded. "Then I can trust you to help me? I have some property where we can take them..."

[personal profile] radiantchicken 2015-08-29 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Torin nods. "That might be best. I have a place I plan on bringing some of them as well, but dinosaurs are hard to hide. Splitting them up would facilitate this." He looks down at the one he's holding. "Though feeding the carnivores may prove to be a challenge."

"Mmm, well, these are all smaller ones," he said. "They can be kept in something as simple as a chicken coop, and fed rats or mice, or even insects."
radiantchicken: (from what is)

[personal profile] radiantchicken 2015-09-05 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Point out that they eat insects, and the populace might be willing to deal with them for a bit longer," Torin says with a laugh. "People often don't think about the environmental impact of such things--just the immediate benefits of being bug-free."
speedpariah: (004)

[personal profile] speedpariah 2015-09-05 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"... Considering what we just stopped them from doing," Weller replied, "it may be more accurate to say their tastes are indiscriminate. Taking them someplace away from humanity seems to be in their better interests."
radiantchicken: (a rubber bird suit)

[personal profile] radiantchicken 2015-09-07 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Torin laughs. "True enough." He's now shifting the dinosaur around in his hands, the better to try holding it comfortably. "Still, I'm rather attached to the idea of dinosaurs and humans working together, fighting as one."
speedpariah: (014)

[personal profile] speedpariah 2015-09-07 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, well... if you want that day to come... we need to separate them for the time being."
radiantchicken: (a rubber bird suit)

[personal profile] radiantchicken 2015-09-10 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"True enough." Torin looks down at the squirming dinosaur and shakes his head at it. "And perhaps their featherless nature makes them a little less likely to settle down the way I might expect."
speedpariah: (023)

[personal profile] speedpariah 2015-09-10 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"They are certainly quite different from what science suggests," Weller replied. "In any case... should we be going now?"
radiantchicken: (expressions you can get)

[personal profile] radiantchicken 2015-09-13 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think we should. If we can get this taken care of before the authorities arrive, that would be to everyone's benefit." Torin nods.
speedpariah: (006)

wrap?

[personal profile] speedpariah 2015-09-14 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mmm, yes, let's act quickly, then," he said, with a nod.
