Echo Incursion 01 - Jurassic Gateway (August 10th, 2016)

It's a particularly hot day in the Gateway City zoo. What else could you expect? It's not like it's not to be expected, it is the middle of August, after all. But there's plenty of things to see here at the zoo, and the visitors' center is air conditioned well enough.

Just a normal summer day in a typical summer vacation spot. Right?

Well, that's when things change. Those in the visitor's center would find the building changing around them. There's suddenly a dinosaur skeleton in the middle of the place, with the banner "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" hanging from the ceiling.

That's not all. The animal enclosures are now different. What used to be a pen for the african elephants now has very large, very long necked reptiles in it. A gigantic, meat-eating dinosaur just tromped its way out of the lion habitat it's too much too large for, and unfortunately for the people around it, its vision is based on movement. The monkey house? Well, those are velociraptors breaking out of it. The aviary? Now filled with particular aggressive flying pterosaurs.

These are just some of the creatures making their sudden emergence, and it's not long until they spill out of the zoo and into the city proper. Dinosaurs are now walking the streets of Gateway City.

Yes, indeed. Just a normal summer day.

In the same instant, a bolt of like speared down the street, an invisible blade thrusting forward in tune with its owner. He wore the same face as the mechanic Weller had spoken to before, but the expression he kept was considerably less friendly. Beasts thrown in all directions, a burst of highly pressurized wind speared out to separate beasts from innocents. Arthur settled, leveling his sword as he scoped out the area, looking for who he needed to help first.

Dressed in a suit, he didn't look the part of any usual bystander.

One of the larger dinosaurs a bit aways from Torin was swept off of its feet by a massive gust of wind, which sent it startled and staggering into a restaurant canopy. Arthur Pendragon approached, his expression remaining absolutely neutral in comparison to everyone else who had been panicking.

Arthur had learned better than to kill on impulse, but it wasn't as if he were going to let the dinosaurs engage any innocent people if he could help it.

"Watch it," He spoke up, approaching it with his drawn, invisible sword. "Whatever brought you here--or made you--we're going to have to figure out, huh?"

At least a Cure can take squashing better than most people - but it's for the best that the dinosaur has moved on.

...I said it's for the best that the dinosaur has moved on, Kirara. Umi reaches out to put a hand on her shoulder. "I guess you're alright."

"What am I doing? What are you doing? You're going to get cr-" Alexandra didn't have time to finish being offended at Rakka questioning her motives. She stop mid sentence when the other girl grabbed a hold of her and leaped well beyond the dinosaurs reach in a single bound.

Her eyes widened in surprise and an odd pulsing sensation went through her mind. She had new memories of a group that could preform abilities not unlike what Rakka was doing now and had no idea where they come from.

"...Precure?" Was the only word she manage to find in her surprise.

"... If that's case, we need to knock them out," Jasmine replied. "We hit them as hard as we can without taking them out directly."

She welled up power in her hands. "One of us needs to distract them. Herd them into an attack..."

Jasmine had learned how to strategize. Fear her.

Winter can't help but sigh softly, pulling Lily close. "Our world is changing again. We fought so hard, and yet... here we are. It does feel like something new is starting. But I'm not worried. After everything, I've learned a lot about myself. There are things I can only learn when I'm fighting for my life, with important things on the line. Important people." She grins as she thinks about it. There were certain things she'd discovered that only came when she fought for them. Fought for herself, for her friends, for her city, for her world... for her most important person.

"I know it's hard, to go back to it after we'd set it aside for so long. But it doesn't change who we are, right? We'll be a little more careful, and everything will be okay." She doesn't know how to express everything she's feeling, but she has to try, right?

Lily lets out a breath she suddenly realizes she's holding all the while Winter speaks. The closer she gets, the more she just sort of wants to wrap her arms around her, but... no, that'd have to wait for the night. When this is done. Just...

"For some reason, this seems a lot scarier than even what we faced before," she murmurs. "It's... we lost so many things then, Winter. We nearly died so many times... I need to do this, but I don't know how to just turn it on like everyone else seems to. I just... don't want to lose what we got out of everything."

She pauses a bit, before focusing her eyes on Winter's. "Just... promise me you will be careful."

The dinosaur doesn't even hesitate in the face of the giant mecha suddenly appearing in its path. Sadly, as big and powerful as it is, it really... isn't much in the face of a giant, magical robot so it slams right into Seles' hand and stumbles back a few steps.

... Doesn't mean it's not going to damn well do its best though! Metal hand or not, the ankylosaurus goes right back on the attack, swinging its tail wildly at the robot.

No! No, it isn't! That dinosaur has to come back right this instant and answer for its crimes! Justice must be done!

That... almost seems like what she's planning to try to do when she feels a hand on her shoulder. That's enough to get her to stop and turn her head to peer up at the person who'd... oh, wait a second. She knows this girl. She almost starts to greet her and then stops abruptly. Kirara knows her, but Cure Twinkle has never seen her before. Instead, she goes with option B.

"No! That phone was brand new!" She slumps a bit. "Jeez, where are these dumbs things coming from anyway?!"

"Dinosaurs!"

It's beginning to fully dawn on Rakka how much is happening. Seeing it on TV hadn't really prepared Rakka for this.

"W-we're fighting dinosaurs." She scans the area ahead, making out the varying sizes and shapes of the beasts.

Is she shaking a little, or is that just the ground?

"I don't know." She swallows. "But, we just have to deal with it... right?"

Torin's fussing over the dinosaur he's holding, shushing it and giving it a small bop on the nose like he might do to an unruly child when it tries to bite him on the thumb. "Ah, forgive me if it was a strange question--I've seen a lot of people keeping pets they shouldn't. And dinosaurs this size might make a few people get ideas in that regard."

He laughs. "They're not really new. Just returned after a very long time. He's examining the dinosaur he's holding again. "Though where are your feathers...?"

Arlene's not asking questions right now. She's just had millions of years of evolution explode fear chemicals in her brain and the only concepts that ring clear and true are fight and flight.

Flight seems like the more viable option. She's out of shape but the way she's sprinting, she might as well be on the track team. Unfortunately, there's another animal that also has this option in mind, in a far more literal sense.

"Oh, shit fuck!" she shrieks, reaching for a traffic cone and flinging it blindly behind her as she scrambles to find some cover. A parked Hummer looks like a promising bet, and she drops and rolls to get under it.

"Okay big guy, you can-" It's still going. This thing is bigger and harder, and it's still going at her. Umi sighs, twisting Seles' hand to catch the club, letting it push the hand so that the dinosaur remained unharmed. Hopefully being in a mech didn't cause any sort of panic while she tried to tire this thing out. "Come on! I'm huge! Just - go away! Jeez..."

That dinosaur is both huge and a big lovable innocent dope, surely. Also, Jasmine won't stand for needless dinosaur abuse.

More importantly, Marina actually catches that moment of seeming recognition, although she can chalk it up to this girl quietly stalking the network for now. "Same place our powers, memories, and everything else comes from?" i.e. fuck if she knows. "Umi Ryuuzaki, magic knight and - and... Precure associate?" she stands up, crossing her arms. "Still ironing out how to market myself."

Why wouldn't there be dinosaurs running around a modern city after everything else that's happened over the past couple of years? Like everything else she takes it in stride...sort of, as she tries to find shelter and not attract the attention of anything that could conceivably eat or crush her. Not an easy task when there are so many of them.

She'd found a gun along with...well, someone who no longer had any use for it, but that didn't mean much when she'd never used one before (except she now had a memory of doing just that). Either way, her first priority was getting away and being confronted by a small pack of Compsognathus hadn't been a part of Plan A. Plan B involved a lot of screaming.

She could really use a hand.

"Diamond Shower!"

A snowstorm is Diamond's reply, issuing from the hole in the wall. It seems to move without her direct command, heading straight for the offending dinosaur and freezing its hind legs to the ground, as she climbs out, looking just a tiny bit worse for wear. "I've had better, but... I'm managing." Her dry tone does nothing to hide her contempt for the situation and her enemies, though she smiles at her new friend slightly. "Like I was saying, if you're not going to fight, you need to run. If you stick around, I don't know how well I'll be able to protect you." At least Twinkle's off the phone. That'd be kind of annoying, really.

Leaping that high over the stampeding beast in a single bound was a tad excessive on Rakka's part, maybe. She had panicked pretty badly though, as Alexandra completely threw her focus off, making the Haibane improvise on the spot. Honestly, she'd think that she did rather well!

Neither of them were dead, and the lumbering herbivore continued on its panicked sprint. Rakka landed carefully, making sure Alexandra didn't hurt herself in any way.

"There, careful..." She put on a face, trying to look like she planned that all along. The little question catches her, but it's brief. Of course people know about the Precure. "...Uh, yeah. I'm Precure."

"NAKEWAMEKE!!!!"

As if Kirara didn't have enough problems to deal with already, the cries of the dinosaurs and people were joined by something complety different. A creature that most closely resembled a humanoid running show came lumbering around the corner and down the street at a jog. It's chest jutted out in a shoe shape, it had strong looking arms and legs, two long shoe lace like tendrils jutted out from it's back and danced around carelessly. There were a few red diamond shaped designs on it's wrists and feet.

There was a young woman in a black outfit riding on it's shoulder who promptly hopped off when it came around the corner. There was a smirk on her face as she watched it barrel down the street.

"Nakewameke, attack!"

"Just do it!!!" The monster cried out as it barrelled into dinosaur and human alike.

The raptors that didn't go down seemed to lose their courage, as they withdrew rapidly, leaving the knocked out ones on the sidewalk and road.

Mina took another closer look at her rescuer. Yuck, his outfit was so tacky. It's like he's a criminal! But she was grateful enough to manage at least a "Thank you."

Dinosaurs running amok out of the zoo of all places were hardly something even the most unobservant people were going to miss. In Emi's case, though, she was on the scene as soon as she heard about it, hard not to with the sounds coming from the city were certainly not the usual sounds.

Arthur's out but sure to become involved, but still she sends him a message before grabbing her parasol and heading out the door at top speed...

Her excuse for getting involved would be to get the chance to fight dinosaurs, it's nothing to do with people getting hurt. Really. The first unfriendly dinosaur she sees, though, is getting introduced to Gungnir.

[NPCing would be welcome, since she'll challenge the biggest, baddest dinos she can find. Basically, challenging alphas when she's not wreaking havoc on dinos in general.]

Rakka was... over here, momentarily safe from the swarm as Emi and Celine held them off. She cradled her companion in her arms, checking for any serious wounds. But besides the few scratches from the Pterosaur claws, Fougere was angrier then scared now. "Rraaagh! We need to kick those lizard's butts!"

"....Right!" Rakka nodded and stood up again, letting Fougere move to her side, morphing into her magic cape in a burst of light. Together, they shot forward like an arrow, swinging a leg out to hit a swooping dino, knocking it away from Celine.

"Thanks!" She tossed a thanks towards her fellow Numbered.

There's still Pterosaurs giving Celine trouble, and that was frankly unacceptable, wan't it? So the other two going for her get a nasty interruption in the form of a red, glowing spear of energy piercing them through the chest, thrown one after the other and vanishing as Emilia recalled her weapon.

"Right to the heart of the matter, eh, Celine?"

The booming shout roars out louder than the racket of dinosaurs and people alike, making Kirara start a little bit. What the heck was--? WHAT.

She dove out of the way as the shoe monster came rampaging past, narrowly avoiding getting trampled over and turned her head to follow its path as it raced on by. The next shout caught her attention and she turned her head to spot the girl in black... ordering it? Was she in charge of this thing?

"Hey, wait a second!" She called out as the monster's path took it straight over a couple of dinosaurs and right onto course with a group of huddled, cowering bystanders.

... Twinkle may not have considered herself a hero, definitely not like Diamond and the others but she's definitely not prepared to sit back and watch this.

Propelled by instincts she never had before, she got up to her feet and jumped! The leap carried her high up into the air, hanging over the monster before a twinkling light surrounded her and... some force or another absolutely broke physics to send her shooting downward to deliver a heavy, resounding kick straight to the monster's head before it could hit those people.

"What the heck do you think you're doing?!" She shouted back over her shoulder toward the mystery girl.

"YOU CANNOT TAKE US HOME? WE NEED TREES. WE NEED FOOD TO EAT. WE NEED A PLACE WHERE WE CAN BE SAFE."

A pause, and then another bellow. "DEAL WITH THE PREDATORS? BUT YOU ARE SO SMALL!"

The pteranodon lets out a screech as the traffic cone strikes her, forcing her to flap her wings in order to remain airborne, stopping the dive. Then, she sees her prey ducking beneath a vehicle, and this makes her angry. She lands on the hummer and lets out a loud screech.

As if on command, two dimorphodon swoop down and try to crawl underneath the car with Arlene, biting and snapping at her.
