[Anyone who pays any sort of attention to American football is going to recognize the guy who's showing up on the network tonight. He's Ronnie "the Rocket" Stein, star quarterback for the Gateway City Guardians. Judging by the size and angle of the picture, he's accessing the network from a mobile phone.]

So...this is the Numbered network thing, huh? I've looked around a little, can't say I've actually posted to this thing before. It's a little too weird for me, you know? But if it's going to keep getting weirder, if I'm reading this thing right.

[Because he's gone back and looked at things. You people are all strange.]

Not like I've found any answers to my particular brand of weirdness, I gotta say.

[He leans back a little bit.]

Can anyone tell me if it's normal to be getting the same...things...as someone else?

That we do, Martin. That we do.

[Ronnie might be surprised when Weller's handshake is just as firm. That's funny, he doesn't look that fit...]

Yes, well, I can imagine that it helps with your chosen career. But seriously, both of you have a seat. I suspect the waiter will be by shortly.

So tell me, what have you been up to these days? Besides this whole Numbered business.

[Why, yes, Stein will gladly keep on small talking as he takes that seat.

Ronnie, meanwhile, is a bit mystified at the strength in that grip, but he'll let Martin chatter away for now.]

Oh, I wouldn't even know where to begin. I've been quite busy; to be honest, I'm surprised you haven't been keeping tabs on me, Professor.

[He briefly regards Ronnie with a short stare, before focusing on his mentor.]

Oh, I've heard things, here and there. But what I hear can only get me so far. There's nothing quite like hearing it from the horse's mouth.

[And with his dad and his dad's friend talking science, Ronnie is just going to try to ignore that short stare and instead start flirting with the waitress. Don't mind him, he's perfectly content doing this...]

Surely you've at least read my paper. The one I published about the alien technology?

[Weller glanced back at Ronnie for a moment.]

I see your son's reputation as a ladies man is well deserved.

[He didn't mean that in an insulting way, more amused, but who knew how the young man would take it?]
thinkingfire: (science is great yo)

[Stein breaks out into a wide grin.]

Of course I read that one. Fascinating read, simply fascinating. I do hope you're continuing with that line of research; it could teach us so much.

[And now he's looking back at Ronnie with a classic "exasperated dad" look, but Ronnie just laughs it off.]

What? I don't do all my playing on the field.
