Factor Industries Charity Event: October 18th, 2016

Even for Benjamin Factor, arranging this charity event had been something of a challenge. Just as he held great influence in Gateway City, Thunder Corp's influence in Locke was great as well. But with time and money, all things were indeed possible in this case, and the Memorial Dance Hall was playing host to the night's events. It was a glamorous affair: politicians, captains of business, dignitaries, and celebrities had been invited. For whatever controversy that existed, the world legitimately wanted to heal the wounds left by the invasion, and that meant there were a lot of people who wanted to use events like this to either advance that cause, or to make themselves look good.

But they weren't the only sorts of individuals who had recieved an invitation.

Benjamin Factor had also made it so the Numbered would be invited to his little party. Arrivals through the teleporter would be greeted by drivers at the community center, and the same courtesy was extended to anyone who might live in Locke. The only stipulation? Was that anyone who came make an effort to make themselves presentable. If that was a problem, or anyone arrived without knowing, they had clothes on hand for people to change into.

Indeed, it seemed that the Numbered would be well provided for tonight. That being said, their presence would get people to talk, given the presence of news crews making live coverage. Nevertheless... "getting people to talk" seemed to be exactly what Benjamin Factor wanted to happen.

No, Carl was not 'shy' in the same way Umi was. Carl was just scary, at least if you didn't work with him. Frankly, Umi wasn't sure if he wasn't scary in some degree anyways, but they get along because a job is a job.

"Thank you, Carl." Much reassured, she is.

As scary as one could be surrounded by magic and superpowers. Still, there's something to be said for a man who could rise to such a level in an organization like Infinita with nothing but strength and a sort of detached brutality.

Even if at the moment he was a little less feared enforcer and more security blanket.

"Hrm." He grunts in response to Umi's thanks before resuming his scanning of the room. Finally, after a few moments he rumbles out something more. "Boring party."

It's always the ones who rise up without powers who seem frightening in a way. Like B**man. If Carl can perform so well without, just how dangerous is he?

At least Umi could take comfort that he was on her side. "...it's fairly normal, isn't it? What is your idea of a fun party?"

That is a question to ask any of the many, many people who'd decided to find the answer the hard way. Some of them might answer. The ones that could still talk anyway.

"Guess so." He's quiet for a moment after, still, like he was giving the next question a due amount of thought before coming to a conclusion. "... Rougher."

What were you expecting?

"Rougher." Umi is actually not really equipped to imagine what that's like. "...you like to fight?"

Not hard to see. There's two kinds of people who fight in the world, the ones who have to and the ones who get a kick out of it. Carl's seen more of the latter in his life and it's not hard to tell that Umi isn't it.

"Real good at it." He rumbled, shrugging a shoulder. "Probably show you sometime."

Fighting was never Umi's strong point - Marina was far more of a fighter than she ever was.

"I'm sure I will see it eventually." There was no way to avoid it, with their goals... probably.

Well, that would probably change up at some point. Especially if Umi went into training with the Serpos crew.

"Probably. Got some work coming up, maybe you'll be there." It couldn't be all parties and fancy rooms forever after all.

It wasn't like she could think of many other talents of her own.

"I will accept whatever assignments I must."
