Even for Benjamin Factor, arranging this charity event had been something of a challenge. Just as he held great influence in Gateway City, Thunder Corp's influence in Locke was great as well. But with time and money, all things were indeed possible in this case, and the Memorial Dance Hall was playing host to the night's events. It was a glamorous affair: politicians, captains of business, dignitaries, and celebrities had been invited. For whatever controversy that existed, the world legitimately wanted to heal the wounds left by the invasion, and that meant there were a lot of people who wanted to use events like this to either advance that cause, or to make themselves look good.

But they weren't the only sorts of individuals who had recieved an invitation.

Benjamin Factor had also made it so the Numbered would be invited to his little party. Arrivals through the teleporter would be greeted by drivers at the community center, and the same courtesy was extended to anyone who might live in Locke. The only stipulation? Was that anyone who came make an effort to make themselves presentable. If that was a problem, or anyone arrived without knowing, they had clothes on hand for people to change into.

Indeed, it seemed that the Numbered would be well provided for tonight. That being said, their presence would get people to talk, given the presence of news crews making live coverage. Nevertheless... "getting people to talk" seemed to be exactly what Benjamin Factor wanted to happen.

This was going to be a correspondence message for the sake of getting to know each other better and to update records, since there are some new faces.

Unfortunately, I was beaten to it by someone I'm sorry you all had to meet.

My name is Lazarus Lawliet. I like to think that we're easy to tell apart, but in case it's confusing, we have these tattoos...

[He brushes aside his hair, revealing a small tattoo below his ear. It's a green and black seedling design, detailed and delicate.]

He tried to copy it. Himself, I suspect. It's broader and clumsier, which applies to a lot of our differences, actually.

[He brushes his hair forward again, looking and sounding frustrated and embarrassed.]

...please accept my apologies, as well as a warning that engaging him is generally a bad idea. He feeds on conflict and wants you to be uncomfortable, making him... well, my opposite, really. At least, I hope so.

On a more macro note, the ghosts are still present in Shepherd's Haven, and they persist in their track record of causing some pulses but not causing physical harm to anyone. I've heard that the same can't be said for the dinosaur rampage in Gateway City; is everyone, for the most part, all right?

A familiar face appears, or rather... two of them. Emi herself is in the forefront, but in the background, peering over her shoulder, was a girl that was almost identical. The only differences was that her hair was blonde and she looked less confident than Emilia did. Emi herself didn't mind her presence, clearly. "It's been just about a year, hasn't it?" And a month since those teleporters were set up, of course.

"And now that slime's showed up," Amelia added, Emilia nodding. Emi spoke up again, "Oh, this is... Well, she's more than another me now... Her's name's Amelia, and she's my sister now." Amy waved shyly from behind Emi.

"I've been thinking... We Numbered have been dealing with a lot, not just the invasion, but everything before that. Now? There's new Numbered popping up, Numbered who were just outsiders. So, Amy here thinks there needs to be an up to date guide for the newbies." The blonde nods.

"Let's fix that, shall we?"

As Blaise walks down the street to his favourite soda shop, he playfully hums to himself. 'What flavour soda should I get today?' he wonders happily. He's so caught up in his own thoughts that he doesn't see the slime ball in front of him until he steps in it and falls backwards from the slippery goo.

"O...owww..." Blaise groans as he rubs the lower part of his back, still wincing. "That sucked..."

He looks back at the slime ball to find something else in it's place - a small, triangle shaped ball of rice with a piece of seaweed wrapped around it. He blinks curiously at it, forgetting for a moment the fact that he had fallen at all. He picks up the rice ball and examines it closely. It looked like food, had the texture of food. He looks around to see if there were any more. Finding it was the only one, he got himself up and dusted off, before walking off with the rice ball in hand. After observing it for a little while, he decides it should be okay to eat. Right? Right.

As he bites into it, he chews for a second, before making a rather repulsed face. He looks in the middle of the remaining rice ball to see if there's anything there, but nothing exists that would indicate the flavour he was tasting. He quickly gulps the piece down and cringes.

"What on earth is this thing? You'd think it would taste better!" He pockets the rest, not sure what else to do with it. He shakes his head a little, feeling dizzy for a second, then continues on his way. "I can't wait to drink that soda, now. Wash that taste out of my mouth."

[Ordinarily she wouldn't make a first impression like this. After all, one must show off ones cute side. But right now she's upset. Very upset. So upset her eyes've turned red without her noticing it. Just one of those things from her past life. A past life she most definitely doesn't appreciate, horrifying as her memories had been.

She'd already discovered the Network while trying to Google up the strange number she'd gotten stuck in her head, but hadn't made a post just yet as she read it trying to get a sense of what's going on. She got just enough to realized that this thing was being used by those Numbered folks. She's not sure why it exists or why she can access it now, but she does know one thing: she's upset.]

What's going on? Why am I getting terrible fucked up memories? Why did I get a fucked up knife? And now I have freaky cat ears, too! And I can make a weirdo force field.

Am I one of those Numbered freaks now? Aren't you the guys whose fault it's the aliens invaded? Why'm I one of you now?

And what's with the gross slimy stuff? Is that you guys' fault, too?

You never appreciate what you have until it's gone. )

[B | network: video | open | 7/25, late morning (NZST)]
[At the conclusion of the mission, Winter returns to Shepherd's Haven, thoroughly annoyed, but also concerned. She absently slams the door shut as she pops her laptop open and kicks the network on. She looks a little disheveled, but not particularly worse for wear, if hastily dressed in a T-shirt and a pair of jeans. Although... there's a worried look in her eyes.]

What's going on? There's... something's happened. This... weird green stuff... it's almost sticky. And it changes. [She holds up a pink plushie, kind of like Raquel, except with a heart motif, and looking mildly like a bunny.] This shouldn't exist. Not in this world, not without a certain person that isn't here. I-

[She looks lost for a moment, staring into the plushie's eyes, torn. After a second, she looks back up at the camera, a helpless expression on her face.] I don't know what to do. This hasn't happened before.

A little over a year has passed since the invasion that rocked the planet. A year since conflict tore a country in two. A year since extraordinary people convinced a being far beyond them of their right to exist. In that year, the world has made every effort to rebuild.

Communities have risen anew, while others have made efforts to heal. Others lie in ruins. Life goes on. And in this time, it seems that extraordinary things have left the Earth alone.

Or maybe they've just been lying in wait.

It begins with slime. As the dawn breaks in New Zealand on the 25th, while it's still the afternoon of the 24th in Gateway City, news reports all over the world remark upon the sudden appearance of spheres green, gelatinous slime. This is all over the world. They do not fall from the sky, they do not appear with a sudden burst of light. They suddenly begin to be, congealing in plain sight like algae in a pond, or moss upon the trunk of a tree.

The balls of slime are not poisonous. They are sticky, and gooey, but all they do is seem to sit there. They may grow bigger over time, but they don't do anything to suck people in. But when a Numbered comes in contact with them... well, that just might make things more interesting.

If one takes a closer look at the slime, the scientific method would yield interesting results: They're composed of the same newly discovered single-celled life form that appeared in the wake of the invasion. But all they do is divide, and multiply. Grow, and coalesce.

A year ago, the world changed in fire and understanding. Today, it all begins again. With slime.
