Shepherd's Haven Event: Devil's Night

Who: Damon the doppelganger and OPEN TO ANY IN SHEPHERD'S HAVEN
What: Devil has an announcement to make in the form of arson and violence. Aforementioned player plot shenanigans.
Where: Shepherd's Haven
When: Forward dated to the night of October 30th, and probably into the morning of the 31st. Devil's night, in other words.
Status: Open with some closed-ish subthreads!
Warnings: Arson and violence?

No night had ever been so aptly named.

Shepherd's Haven wasn't anywhere near Michigan, but that didn't mean the festivities of Devil's Night couldn't be spread to far and wide locales. It was the perfect night, in fact, for the creature known as a demon to remind the sleepy little haven of precisely why it was unwise to prod the beast. Perhaps the one who called him there had forgotten, or perhaps he simply thought the devil had more bark than bite.

Oh, how wrong he was.

It began with fire. Several fires, to be precise. Small at first but fed with whatever accelerant Damon could find on hand. Fuel left unguarded, dry hay or straw. Did you know compost burns very well? It does, oh how it burns. And each fire set at different locations across the town, so quickly and so close to simultaneous one might almost think that they were set by several people at once.

Or one that could move very, very quickly.

The cherry on top was a door with a fading red "X" painted on it, ripped from its hinges and set ablaze, then left on the steps in front of the town hall.

[[OOC: Leaving this fairly open for anyone to react to and have their own threads/etc. of what's happening. Separate threads will go up for some more planned stages of the event, but if anyone wants to be unfortunate enough to run across Damon while he pursues his arsonist rampage through SH go ahead and put up a toplevel and just toss in the comment header that you want me.

Have fun dealing with those fires and rampaging demon, guys!]]

As the can is tossed aside, Jacob follows it with his eye. Doesn't this guy know what fumes can do if you aren't careful? He gives a grunt of disapproval. Then, Jacob gets taken aback a slight as he sees Damon's face. Tony? No. Jacob shakes his head a bit and pulls back into his scowl.

Jacob tries really hard to ignore the fact that Damon's expression sends a chill down his spine. He swears he can feel himself shake, which might be different if he could use his magic without causing more problems, but he won't let it show if he can help it. He fights to loosen himself up - you can't fight with tension and expect to win. He inhales when Damon faces him full on. The lost comment gets on his nerves a little, so much so that he scoffs a little bit.

"Looks like you're the lost one. Why are you setting fire to everything?" His tone is a little uneven, wavering. He definitely feels like his strength will be nothing compared to Damon's. He might have to succumb to using magic, just to stand a chance.

"You're invited and you set fire to everything? That's some gratitude. A simple email would have done the trick, y'know." He says in a tone that he hopes is more brave than he feels. Something about Damon's tone is both terrifying and yet, gets deep under Jacob's skin.

Jacob makes and keeps eye contact with Damon as he approaches. He feels every nerve telling him to run. But, not with the lives of others on the line. He refuses to run. He swallows nervously, his palms starting to sweat. He feels significantly small compared to Damon. Nope, no way to survive this fist to fist, and that's even if this guy fights fair.

Jacob recoils his hand and starts charging up a fire attack. The problem is that this will take about ten seconds to charge, the good news is, the aim of the spell is highly accurate if he can successfully cast it.

Damon's grin is absolutely mortifying. The sign that tells Jacob this man is undoubtedly the sort to be a killer and not bat an eye. Triple shit...

If Jacob would have blinked, he would have completely missed Damon's speed as he appears right before him. Jacob lets out a yell as he falls back completely, landing on the ground. He's breathless, but not because of the impact or the fall. The fear had reached his throat and he gasps for air as he sits back up. A wise man would stay down. He visibly trembles as he stands back up. His brave facade is no longer existent, the terror obvious on his face as he stares back at Damon. With a firm swallow, he raises both hands up, ready for a fist fight.

This won't end well. But, with the sirens, maybe he can distract Damon enough for everyone to escape. He clenches his hands as he charges at Damon with a yell.

When he had gotten up, he'd started trying to resummon his fire, trying to be discreet about it. He counted the seconds between then and charging at Damon.

Jacob sees the blade and barely has time to react. He moves under and to the side, getting a rather large gash along his left arm. He winces, but attempts to use the ground he's gained. He swings his right arm around, flames encased around it, aiming for Damon's stomach.

"Believe me, I have no intention of dying!"

Jacob tries to keep up, but how can he? He doesn't know anyone that fast. He only has a split second to even try to back up, but the sword doesn't miss. His shirt is sliced open and a long cut appears across his chest. Jacob hisses as the warmth of his blood drips from the wound. Thankfully, it's mostly shallow. He continues to stumble back, trying to think of another tactic. Now that his magic has been revealed, he's pretty sure he won't get to use it twice, unless he can find another opening for dumb luck. Fat chance...

He's panting, and his magic took a bit out of him as well. Piled on top of his terror and all he could do to evade that attack as much as possible, any chance he stood before has successfully reduced itself to zero. His legs give way and he collapses onto his knees. Dammit! He glares up at Damon, no longer feeling fear. Just purely frustrated that there's nothing he can do to save everyone else, or if he can even save his own life at this point.

"M... Mercy..." The word leaves his mouth with a grimace, as though a bitter poison on his lips. He can't do anything now, but if he can see another day, he can help the recovery. He hates it, with every fiber of his being, and it's written plainly on his face. But he'll do more good alive than dead, maybe help a few more people escape before his injuries get the better of him. "Let me go."

He's going to hate himself for a long time, for giving in like this.

Damon's stalking makes it hard for Jacob to keep a train of thought, fearing that at any second, Damon might make another move and he doesn't want to blink if he has to try and dodge again. Thankfully, Damon doesn't seem insistent to take his life before he collapses.

Jacob feels the cold of the metal tap under his chin and he twitches his head up a little, instinctively avoiding the sharp tip. His eye narrows in a glare as Damon mocks him further. He literally bites on his tongue, holding back the army of retaliating words he feels burning at the tip. Lest he changes Damon's mind into sparing him. However, his expression shows clearly how much he loathes Damon, and not being strong enough to stop this monster here. He feels his teeth practically cutting into his tongue.

He continues to glare at Damon, unflinching. He's unsure whether he should wait for Damon to leave or if he's able to get up and leave himself. Very slowly, he starts to stand back up, judging for Damon's reaction, and trying to keep himself steady.

At Damon's predatory smile, Jacob gives a soft hiss of disapproval, almost a scoff if it would have been louder. He fantasises a few dark ideas in his head, but that's all they'll be - fantasies. He's not stupid enough to keep up a fight that will very likely cause his last breath. Damn it, anyhow.

He watches as the sword is returned to Damon's side, silent, releasing just a bit of the tension in his shoulders. He takes a few steps backward. He turns away at Damon's dismissal, watching Damon from the corner of his eye before judging it safe enough to keep his back turned to the monster. He starts to walk away, trying to keep his legs steady. He'd jog if he could, but he still feels a little weak from the battle. So, instead, he does his best to walk, head up, shoulders back. If he can't run, might as well walk dignified.
