On the morning of September 16th, 2016 in America, news reports break, covering a statement made by Thunder Corp about the snake appearances in Locke City. The footage shows their spokesperson, wearing a pleasant practiced looking smile on their face, addressing a group of reporters.
"Our company, which has continued to guide the restoration and rejuvenation of our city, would like the public to rest easy in the knowledge that the stone serpents that menaced our city have been ferreted out and destroyed. Locke City is once again a safe place. Our hazard containment teams have successfully discovered the source, and determined that their existence predates the invasion of last year. They were found in a cave outside the city, and much like the serpents we rounded up, match reports of several other sightings in January of 2014. There is no danger or evidence of renewed phenomena in Locke, and we are confident that there will not be a large scale incident like the invasion, or the rampage of the serpentine beast that nearly destroyed Locke in March 14.
"Unfortunately, this also delivers a sobering reminder for us all," they continue, suddenly sounding more sobered. "That even now, there's much of what we don't know about what led to the devastation that menaced our world. The serpents remained under our noses, even as we rebuilt Locke from the ground up. While Thunder Corp feels responsible for the oversight, we wonder, perhaps, if this could have been avoided if the so-called 'reincarnates' had not abandoned our city in the wake of the invasion. There is still much that's unknown about their presence in Locke City, as well as the time before they were revealed to the public, and we hope that there are reincarnates, or "Numbered", that will eventually come forward and work with us. Both to answer questions about their role in Locke City's various disasters, as well as use their talents to help guide and improve this world they've, for good or ill, helped to create."
The press conference ends, with no questions being taken. In the wake of this announcement, everyone begins talking. Some don't believe Thunder Corp, while others speculate on whether or not there was a connection to the prehistoric creatures in Gateway. Still others focus on what was said about reincarnates.
The more outlandish theories warn of a second invasion, while others bring up Thunder Corp's sketchy history prior to the hostile takeover that led to their new president taking power and begin question how trustworthy the corporation is. And yet, there are a great many voices use this as an opportunity to begin demanding the Numbered "share their secrets", however nebulous that may be, and do more to work with Thunder Corp to keep more things like this from happening.

I...I-I can't believe this! How could they say things like that and expect us to help them?
[she knows the answer, of course, which just makes it all the worse.]
We have to help, but... to work for Thundercorp? [She shakes her head.] I... I can't, guys.
You getting worked up like this? This is what they want.
What can we do about this...?
Protecting Locke from itself doesn't mean having to work for them. When has it ever?
Do you think it's suspicious?
[Except, what could they do? The longer they sat on the issue, the longer Thundercorp could simply slander their names.]
Something.... anything.
We'll figure something out. As a team. Like we always do.
I know that, together, we'll figure out something.
Anyway, just... let us know what you want to do, if you can figure it out.
I-I will. I want to make sure we all what's going on.

You don't know? They've been around since the beginning, working with people that were trying to kill us! And they always manage to save face in the end!
Re: video

[Uuuuugh, she rubs her face with her hands.]
Why is this happening? Nothing like this happened for a whole year!

Re: video

I guess... Thundercorp really has been covering their tracks.

[Nevermind that it's because of her parents' wealth and influence that she didn't suffer worse consequences for hospitalizing another student.]

They aren't getting the feedback they want to properly apologize, so they must feel the need to redirect blame. What they're saying is fair--but, from our perspective, it's an attack.
[He looked on, only really feeling the advertisement itself was more of a feint than anything asking for help. It was probably some sort of bait.]
Make sure nobody takes the bait.

[That's certainly one way to put it anyway.]
I don't even know these guys, but... didn't they have something to do with the whole alien thing in the first place?

[She leans closer a little bit, curious, and her voice drops to a lower, conspiratorial tone. Her eyes shift from side to side.]
Are these guys, like... our secret supervillain archenemies or something?
[She's taking this super seriously. Clearly.]
no subject
[Sorry, Kirara, she's taking you entirely seriously.]
Before the aliens even showed up, though, they were always screwing with us. My best friend's father worked for them, and... he ended up being shot. I still don't know exactly what happened, but... I'm pretty sure they had a part in it.

[Wow, okay, yeah. That does put a damper on her joking a little bit. She rears back a bit, blinking in surprise.]
Wow... that's... okay, that's pretty serious.

I don't know how they've been covering this all up. Probably with a ton of fucking money.
no subject
[... Yeah, she's gonna be keeping an eye out for these guys.]
Well... a ton of money and a pretty good PR department.

I mean, my previous self was evil, so. Take it from me. It's a sound enough plan.

[She blinks, and tilts her head a bit to take a closer look at Jasmine.]
I guess that explains the whole scary bat wing and gloom motif, then.
[Guess who's completely moved on.]
no subject
...
...
Um. Thanks...
[Yeah, she sounds... bothered.]
no subject
Oh! Hey, I didn't mean anything by that! It's just that you've got a real different style from the rest of your group, that's all.

[That... and feeling ashamed is just something kind of alien to Kirara here.]
no subject
I accept both her and part of my experience as a part of myself now, but...
... I know we haven't talked much yet, but... I suppose I'd already associated you as a friend.
no subject
[She listens to what Jasmine has to say, tilting her head a bit and then blinks at that last part, looking surprised for a second. Then, after that second's over, she laughs a bit, giving her a smile.]
A friend, huh? Okay, but if you're gonna be my friend then the first thing you have to do is promise to never feel sorry for yourself about who you are, okay? No matter what anybody says about you.
no subject
[She laughs, slightly.]
You know, self discovery is a weird thing sometimes... You know it in your head, but... you hear something and your heart is convinced otherwise...
But if the great Kirara Hoshimoto wants me to keep my resolve, how can I disappoint her?
no subject
[She gives Jasmine a wink and another little laugh before her expression becomes a little more serious.]
But seriously, you need a thick skin to make it in the industry I'm in so I've got plenty of experience there. That kind of stuff can get to you really easily if you let it.

Or scab, at least.
